This meeting was led by Wang Xiaoguang, Executive Deputy Director of the ESG Professional Committee of the All-China Environmental Federation. It reviewed the key activities of the ESG Special Committee since its inception and discussed the work plan for 2024.
Lin Bin, Director of the ESG Professional Committee of the All-China Environmental Protection Federation, delivered a summary of the committee's work for 2023 and presented the work plan for 2024. In his report, he highlighted that since the establishment of the ESG Professional Committee over six months ago, it has made significant progress, starting with team formation, establishing rules and regulations, and developing members (committees). The committee has also accomplished substantial work in areas such as theoretical research, drafting and formulating standards, preparing ESG reports, providing professional training, engaging with mainstream media, organizing forum activities, integrating social resources, and standardizing institutional cooperation. These efforts have largely met the expected objectives and established a solid foundation for promoting ESG concepts and advancing the committee's work.
Standing Committee member Hao Qin provided an explanation of the "Guidelines for Enterprise ESG Evaluation (Draft for Comments)" from the All-China Environmental Protection Federation and addressed questions from the participating committee representatives. Meanwhile, Standing Committee member Sun Xiaowen introduced the "Listed Company ESG Risk Weekly Report," detailing the functions of the ESG risk early warning platform for listed companies. He also discussed how big data and artificial intelligence technologies are being used to design a risk indicator system, build a scoring model, and create the ESG risk index for listed companies.
Afterwards, the delegates made speeches and put forward many pertinent opinions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Wang Qinghua, Supervisory Director of the China Environmental Federation, reviewed the reports and speeches of the committee members. He commended the achievements of the ESG Professional Committee and offered guiding opinions and requirements for its future development and planning.
Director Wang Qinghua outlined three key priorities for the ESG Special Committee's work. First, the committee should emphasize professional guidance and focus on brand building by fully leveraging its unique characteristics and functions, working diligently to achieve practical outcomes in specialized areas, showcasing individual strengths, enhancing expertise, and fostering collective synergy. Second, there is a need to strengthen organizational development and enhance service capabilities by prioritizing the improvement of organizational structure, capacity building, and the exploration of new models. Efforts should be made to enhance the institutional frameworks and mechanisms of the committee's secretariat, with an emphasis on better management and operational efficiency. Third, the committee should expand cooperation and enhance industry influence by maximizing the advantages of the Federation's work and the Special Committee's role, accelerating the expansion of service areas, actively organizing cross-border exchanges and cooperation, effectively standardizing and integrating social resources, and building a solid foundation of social forces that will support the sustainable, rapid development of the committee.
The development of ESG in China is going through a crucial period. How to make the evaluation and disclosure of ESG more standardized and how to make the combination of enterprises and ESG more closely are all important topics.
